Proud does not even come close to describing how I feel about the SOY u10 Jets, not just for their win at Bloomfield Road in the Hogan Plate Final, but for the class, resilience and determination they have shown all season.
After the successes we achieved last season, winning the Coulton Plate at Highbury, to find ourselves battling our way to another final this season, has blown me away. 3 consecutive seasons making it to finals, with 2 back-to-back wins. The boys should be incredibly proud of themselves 🙌🏼
On the pitch on Saturday the boys worked as a team and they all played their part in an exciting game of football. Chances were built from the back, with Freddie B picking out incredible passes that put us on the front foot from our back line. Freddie B got the assist for our opening goal in the first half, playing it forwards to Aarsh, Aarsh battled with the opposition defenders in the box sending the ball goal ward, with Rory making sure it was definitely over the line. The first half was full of pace and energy from all the boys, our wingers Freddie A, Alfie, Rory and Frank covered every blade of grass from touchline to touchline, ensuring we maintained possession. Max playing in net kept his focus and was called into action during the game, but he commanded his box and smothered everything that came his way.
In the second half, the boys maintained that energy and focus. The desire to get another goal on the scoreboard was strong. Arlo nearly bagged himself a screamer from a dribble-on, which the opposition keeper was forced to save, just pushing it over the crossbar. The boys kept the pressure on and battling for every ball. Aarsh fed the ball through to Jenson who found the back of the net from the top of the box, sealing victory for the Jets. Alistair made some important blocks and tackles in the dying minutes of the game. Helping to make sure we kept a clean sheet.
This has been a perfect ending to a fantastic season of football. I can’t wait to see where next season takes us! 🏆💙💛⚽️ Go Jets ⚽️💛💙🏆
